Examination TextRichard Stoakes aged upwards of 15 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields saith he never was an apprentice a yearly hired servant nor never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes nor never was married, that he was born in Castle Street near Long Acre at one Mr Holmes's, that his father was a Japanner of household goods and that he has heard served his time to one of that business in Castle Street aforesaid, to one Nicholls there and never heard that he was ever a yearly hired servant or kept house rented 10 pounds by the year or paid any parish [taxes], that he does not know when his said apprenticeship expired, that he died in the month of April last and his mother about seven years ago, that he hath only a brother to wit Samuel aged about 14 years now apprentice [to] a Silver Hook Maker in Vere Street near Clare Market.
