Examination Text | Mary Lea aged 30 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields saith that she never was married, that she was bound an apprentice by indenture for seven years to one William Mardeth a Staymaker in Bedfordbury in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields whom she there served about five years and then her master not having convenient or further employment for her gave her his free consent to depart from his service, and that with such consent she went and lived herself for a year to one Mrs Lambe a Cook in Shelton Court in Bedfordbury in the same parish at the yearly wages of 40 shillings and diet and lodging, that she there served her said mistress for the space of 19 or 20 months but never lived the space of an entire year in any one service whatsoever since, but hath got her living chiefly by making of Boulting Cloaths at weekly wages. Sworn [the 23rd Day of January 1744]. |
