New Bridge over the Thames from Lambeth to Westmr. Vizt. Mr. Trear
Sr. Charles Cox< no role > Mr Lade Mr. Halsey Mr Malyn Mr. Kenrick Mr. Billers
Mr Moses Raper< no role > Mr Monck Mr. Mount Mr. Sheering Mr. Mayo Mr Powle
and any other of the Governors who Please to Attend.

And it is Referred to this Committee to take the necessary Measures for
opposing the said Bridge

Mercur 17 o. Januar 1721.

The said Committee met and Prepared a Petition to the House of Common
and were Attended by Dr. Jurin and Mr. Machin Two eminent Mathematician
who were desired to Give their Assistance in Opposing the said Bridge

At a General Court Held at the said Hospital on Fryday the 19th. day of
January 1721 . in the presence of Sr. Thomas Abney< no role > Knt . & Alderman
president William Cole< no role > Esqr . Trear and several other Governors

The Minutes of the last General Court Read and approved.

Bridge at Lambeth }


The Petition to the House of Commons against the New Bridge was Read and
with some Amendmts. was approved and Ordered to be Ingrossed & Signed by
the Clerk by Order of this Court And it is Referred to Mr. Trear Sr. Charles Cox< no role >
and such other Gentlemen here present as shall think fit to Attend to get
the same presented to the House next Monday and Council are to be
Retained and Imployed to Inforce this Petition Dr. Jurin and Mr. Machin
attended this Court And also Mr. Browne the City Bricklayer who were
all of Opinion That a New Bridge would Occasion a Rise of Water there
which may endanger the Overflowing of the Low Grounds between that
and London Bridge .

The Orders & Proceedings of the General Court Held
th 1st. of March 1721 . after the Reading of the Comittee's
Report and which were omitted to be entred in folio 190:
of this Book were as follow Vizt.

And the aforesaid Report being taken into Consideration was well
liked and approved by this Court and Ordered to be Observed and
performed and Entred in the Reportery of the proceedings of this
Court And as to the Gross Misbehaviour of Mr.Waterman One of our
Governours Sett forth in the said Report It is Ordered That his Name
be immediately here in Court Expunged out of the Book kept of
the Names of the Governours of this Hospl. and the same was
accordingly expunged by the Clerk out of the said Book in open Court

And as to the Matter mentioned in the said Report relating to
the Churchyard or Burying Ground in St. Thomas's upon the Gates
whereof some of the Parishoners have fixed a Padlock to hinder
the Governors. of this Hospl. from making use of the said Ground
for Burying of the Officers and Patients Dying in this Hospital Altho'
there is an undoubted and incontestable Right in the Governors so to
do without paying any Fees for the same The Church and Church yard
being granted and approprinted to the said Governors. and their Successors
