Papers relating to
the Exempcon of St:
Thomas's Church
from Episcopall
Visitacon Etc.

Coppyed of the papers relateing to the Bishop of Winchesters
Intended Visitacon and to the Vaults under St. Thomas Church.

Upon perusall of the Grant to the Governrs. of St: Thomas's Hospitall
Fam of opinion that although the Church be made parochiall yet by that Grant
'tis Indowed with all the priviledges of a Free Chappell and is really a Free
Chappell in the Strictest sence, being exempted from the Jurisdiccon of the
Ordinary in express termes Arch Bishops Bishops or Arch Deacons And therefore
I am of Opinion That the Ordinary is liable to an Attachment at the Queens
suit in case he shall exercise Jurisdiccon therein having the priviledge of
a Free Chappell.

After perusall of the Charter of the Foundacon for St. Thomas's
hospitall and hearing the Allegacon that there had not been time out of
Mind any Visitacon from the Bishop in the Chappell or Church of the
said Hospitall I am of Opinion that the said Chappell or Church is by the
Charter an exempt Royall Jurisdiccon and not subject either to Archiepiscopall
Episcopall Archiadicconall visitacon.
