WE, whose Hands and Seals are hereunto set, Two of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace in
and for the County of Middlesex (one whereof being of the Quorum)inhabiting in or next
unto the Limits of the Parish Church of St Andrew Holborn
having met together, and heard the
Complaint of the Overseers of the Poor of the Part of St. Andrew Holborn which lies
above the Bars , in the County of Middlesex , and the Parish of St. George the Martyr in the said
County, concerning a Male Bastard Child, baptized Thomas< no role > born
of the Body of Elizabeth Auston< no role > Single woman within the said part of the said Parish of St
Andrew Holborn which is become chargeable thereto, and is so likely to continue, DO, uponthe
Examination of the said Elizabeth Auston< no role > taken upon Oath before us, find and adjuge the said
Complaint to be true-And we do also find, upon the Oath of the said Elizabeth Auston< no role >
that William Johnson< no role > , who lately lodged at No.2 Greenhillsments Cow Cross in the Co. of Middlesex did
beget on the Body of her the said Elizabeth Auston the said Male Bastard Child. AND
WHEREAS we have summoned the said William Johnson< no role > - to appear before us this Day to
answer the said Complaint, and shew Cause why he should not be adjudged the putative Father of the
said Male Bastard Child; and the said William Johnson< no role > not having appeared to
answer the said Complaint, and having shewn no Cause why he should not be adjudged the putative
Father of the said Male Bastard Child- WE the said Justices, upon Examination upon Oath of
the said Elizabeth Anotent and on Proof being made on Oath of the due Service of
the said Summons, and other Circumstances appearing unto us, DO adjudge him the said William
Johnson
< no role > to be the putative Father of the said Male Bastard Child, and do order and appoint
him forthwith, upon Notice of this our Order, to pay or cause to be paid to the said Overseers of
the Poor, the Sum of Two pounds Six Shillings and Six Pence of lawful Money
of Great Britain, by them already expended in the Relief and Maintenance of the said Male Bastard
Child, and other Expences attending the same- AND ALSO that he the said William Johnson< no role >
shall Weekly, and every Week from henceforth, pay or cause to be paid to the said Overseers of the
Poor of the said Part of the said Parish of Saint Andrew Holborn and the said Parish of St. George the
Martyr Two Shillings & Six Pence for and towards the Relief and Maintenance of the said
Male Bastard Child for so long Time as the same shall remain chargeable to the said Part of the
said Parish of St. Andrew Holborn and the said Parish of St. George the Martyr .GIVEN under
on Hands and Seals this
And we do further Order that the said Elizabeth Auster shall
also pay of Cause to be paid to the said Overseers of the Poor of the said part of the said parish
of Saint Andrew Holborn and the said Parish of St. George the Martyr for the Time being
or to some or one of them the sum of Six pence Weekly and every weeks so long as
the said Male Bastard Child shall be chargeable to the said part of the said parish of
Saint Andrews Holborn and the said parish of Saint George the Martyr in ease she
shall not Nurse and take care of the said Child herself Given under our Hands
and Seals this 27th day of February 1795.
