George Campbell< no role > late Marine of Colonel Cockram's
Regiment & Serving on board his Majesties Ship the Vigilant
Maketh Oath & Saith that James Rottery< no role > Marine of the said Regiment
and likewise on board the same Ship Did by his last Will and
Testament by him duly Executed in the presence of Two Witnesses
bearing date the Seventeenth of November One thousand Seven
Hundred & forty Eight DidGive & Bequeath unto this Deponent all
his Estate & Effects whatsoever & Appointed this Deponent Sole
Executor thereof and thereby Revoked all former Wills And this
Deponent Saith that the said Testator died Upon or near the
Coast of Madagascar in the East Indies within Six or Seven
days after the making the Aforesaid Will without Altering or
Revoking the same as this Deponent verily beleives And this
Deponent Saith that Upon his Arrival in England which happened
in Aprill 1752 He Applied to a Procter in Doctors Commons
in order to Prove the said Will But was Informed there that
another Will had been Proved & a Probate thereof Granted
to One George Rathery< no role > by the name of the Cousin of the said
Testator Whereupon this Deponent Applied to One of Mr.
Garing's Clerks which said Mr. Garing was the Agent for the
Said Regiment & Inquired of him if any Person or Persons
had received the Wages & Pay due to the said James Rottery< no role >
who Informed this Deponent that One Oliver Mac Allester< no role >
then of Brompton had received the same by virtue of a Power
of Attorney from the said George Rathery< no role > And this Deponent
further Saith that having a great Opinion of the honesty and
Integrity of George Switman< no role > who then Belonged to the said Regiment
& now is an Out Pensioner of Chelsea Colledge He this Deponent
Applied to him severall times in order to Put him in a proper
