A Motion was now made that this Court do agree
with their Committee in their Report but before the Question was
put thereon it was Moved by way of amendment to add these
words vizt. "without looking at the Plans on the Table" the
question being put on the amendment it was carried in the
Negative the Original Motion was now by leave withdrawn and
it was Moved that the Two Letters and Rolls of Paper produced to
this Court be read and Examined and the same being agreed to
the Letters were opened and read and are as follows vizt.

"An Advertisement having appeared in the public
"prints purporting that a plan or plans for an House of Correction
"would be this day taken into Consideration and having at leisure
"intervals formed a design for such purpose supposed it would be
"neither thought improper on unseasonable to lay such Plan before you
"should its merits at all in title it to your attention I shall be extremely
"happy in having filled up some vacant hours to a govd purpose
"and shall think myself highly honoured if called upon to enter
"into a particular Explanation of the design

Letter of Mr Brettingham
respecting a plans of a
House of Correction
form'd by him}

"To
The Workshipful His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the County of
"Middlesex in their General Quarter Session of the peace holden for the said
"County in the Month of July 84 assembled.

"Mr Brettingham Architect understanding that it is
"in Contemplation of His Majestys Justices of the Peace to build a New
"House of Correction for this County humbly begs leave to submits their
"Inspection a plan for that building."
