By adjournment 16th July 1778

The Chairman having returned to Saunders Welch< no role > Esquire o [..]
of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for this County the Mace or
High Constables Staff capped with Silver which Mr Clay the late
High Constable for Holborn Division had in his possession at the time
of his Death and which Mace or High Constables Staff is the proper [..]
of the said Saunders Welch Esquire Mr Welch presented the Ca [..]
with the Mace for the use of the present High Constable of that
Division and his Successors at the Discretion of the Justices for the
time being

Whereupon It was moved that the thanks of the Court be given to
Saunders Welch Esquire for the obligation he has conferred upon the
Magistrates of this County in presenting them with the Mace or Staff
which has been borne by the High Constables of Holborn Division and
the same being unanimously agreed to; the Thanks of the Court were
by the Chairman given to Mr Welch accordingly

By adjournment same Day

The Subsequent Petition from Mr Edward Hall< no role > Governour of
the House of Correction at Clerkenwell being laid before the Court
and the same being read as follows. Vizt.
