bounds and extent of the Said MarketAnd that upon the
Strictest inquiry they can make of the oldest Inhabitants, The
place, where the Old Toll post Stood, cannot be found, By
reason where of the place where the Market begins is uncertain,
And as the Said Toll post is described in the Act to have Stood
over against the House then late Coventry House and which
the Committee are informed began three doors South of
Coventry Court lately occupyed by the Lord Gorin on the
ground of which the Chappel belonging to the Said house did
Stand, And in regard no cart Stands in the Market So high up
as the Said House they are of opinion that a Toll post ought to
be Sett down on the East Side of the Said Hay-Market over
against the Said House late the Lord Gorins with an
Inscripcon thereon, The Market begins here, And that the
Extent may be ascertained for the future That another be Set
North of the House late the Phoenix Inn at the lower end of
the Hay-Market with an Inscripcon, The Market ends here
For want of which the pavement has been repaired
almost to the end of the Hay-Market out of the Toll, and
contains 70 yards in length and fourteen yards in breadth,
making together 980 Superficial yards of Square pavement
more than ought in our opinion to have been repaired at the
expence of the County and has been one great means of
occasioning the present great debt,And that the great
increase of buildings towards the out parts of the Towne, there
which the Farmers pass with their hay and Straw to Market
has given them an opportunity to Supply those places without
comeing into the Market at all, by which the toll has of late
years much decreased, And as for these four years & an half
the Said Duty has produced but £100. P Ann the Said Committee
think an allowance of £10. a year to an Agent be besides a
Collector at £20. a year more than can be afforded, it being
impracticable to keep So large an extent of pavement in
