repair for £70. a year, and which amounts to 4590 yards of
Superficial pavement unless reduced by placeing the Toll post as
above proposed, And the Said four Justices further Reported
that upon inquiry they find that none of the Inhabitants
within the limits of what has been called the Hay Market have
in the least contributed, as the Said Justices think they ought to
have done, towards the repair of the pavement, the toll being
granted only in ease of the Inhabitants and towards the
repairing & amending the pavement, as appears by the first
Section of the Said Act 8 o. & 9 o. Willi tertij And as it is by the
said Order referred to the Said Committee to consider by what
methods the Same may be most effectually repaired they have
in the best manner they are able digested their thoughts, and
cannot by any means beleive' tis practicable to cause the
pavement either to be put into repaire or kept So unless by
contract for a terme of twenty one years at the least with Some
Substantial Paviour, who they think might (if Such contract
may be made as the Act now Stands) undertake to discharge
the present debt, and to pave the whole in the best manner
with Pebles throwing out all the Ragor at least the Small Rag
The large Rag to be used only on the West side as being little
used but for the carts to Stand upon, In consideracon whereof and
of giveing Security for the due & well performance of Such
contract the whole produce of the Toll to be assigned except £20.
P Ann reserved for the Collector always to be appointed by
this Comission, by whose Order Said Pavior Should be paid
quarterly performing his contract, And in order to it's
being kept in good and Sufficient repaire as well as new
paved in a Workmanlike manner as aforesaid the said
Comittee think it would be necessary & convenient to
appoint a Standing Committee ofat the least of
Neighbouring Justices of whomShould have
power to give the Said person So contracting notice to amend
defects So often as they either observe or are acquainted of
