Upon reading the Report of Robert Thornhill< no role > John Milner< no role > This name instance is in set 4214. &
Narcissus Luttrell< no role > Esqrs . three of his Maties Justices of the
Peace for this County to whom (inter al) It was referred
by Order made at the Generall Sessions of the Peace held
for this County on Monday the second day of Decernber
last to enquire what Licences were granted by his Maties.
Justices of the Peace for His County, to the severall Victuallrs.
within this County for keeping of comon Alehouses or
[..] victualling houses, for selling of beer & ale or other
liquors by retail, and by whom, And also to take an
accot. of what persons sold beer & ale without Licence since
the times of the generall renewall of Licences, And to
report to his Matiess Justices of the Peace in their sessions
what fees have been taken for renewing of old licences and
granting of new licences, And alsoe what fees have been
taken or remanded by the Cryer of this Court of his Agents,
on delivering out such licences, And what summs of money
(if any) have been demanded or taken of any Victualers
by any of the Clerks belonging to his Maties. Justices of the
peace for this County, or by any Headboroughs or
Beadles for collecting or bringing in any old licences to
the Justices of the peace at the times of the general
renewing, And to inquire & inspect into all other abuses
touching the granting or renewing any licences for
selling beer, ale & [..] other liquors by retail, It
appeared to this Court that at the several petty sessions
held for Holbourne & Finsbury Divisions in this County
for renewing of Victuallers licences for the Yeare
one thousand seven hundred & seventeen, that severll.
Clerkes who then attended took in several old licences
which were not delivered to the Clerk of the peace of this
County, and that many Victuallers had paid unreasonable
Summs either to the Justices Clerks or to Beadles to
obtain new licences, and procured new licences to be
obtained without obligeing the Victuallers therein named
to appeare before any Justice of the peace for that
purpose or enter into any Recognizance for their good
behaviour And that severall Victuallers who are
