Whitchall 14: Febry 1749/50

Sir,

Some favourable Circumstances
having been humbly represented to the King
in the Behalf of James Hammond< no role > , who was
tried and convicted at the last sessions held
at the Old Baily for stealing six Pair of
Worsted Stockings and had Sentence of
Death Passed upon him for the same, His
Majesty has thereupon been graciously
pleased to extend this royal Mercy to him
upon Condition of Transporation for &
during the Person of his natural Life, and
has commanded me to signify His Pleasure
to you that you give the necessary Order too
his being transported to one of His Majestys
Colonies or Plantations in America Pursuans
to the Act of Parliament in that Behalf.
