Notes for the Paymont of Sumes of mony undo & forma as in
the Indictmt. is alleadged But not under the seal of the Corparation And that being So trusted & employed
he made a Bank note in writing Signed by him undo & forma
as in the Indictment is also alleadged for payment of £100. to
James White< no role > or Bearer Wee find that the 22th. of February
1714 Ninety pounds part of the Said hundred pounds was paid to
the Bearer as by the Indictmt. is alleadged and that upon such
paymt. Upon and cross the writing of the said note upon the fase
& inside thereof was written for and on behalf of the Governour
Etc of the Bank of England the words & figures following in
Red Ink Vizt. 22 Feb: 1714 Paid ninety pounds
Wee find that the Prisoner John Bigg< no role > the day in the Indictmt.
menconed did by putting a certain liquor to the Jury Unknown
on the Said Letters & Figures written in Red Ink as aforesaid totally
expurge and take out the said Letters & Figures
Wee find that at the time of making the statute of 8 & 9 Wm.
3d. the only way used to Indersing Bank Notes was by writing on
the Backside of the said notes in Black Ink But that Upon the
28th. November 1696 and ever Since the Way has been to write
all Payments Upon and cross the writing of Bank Notes as above a
and that Such writing has all along ever Since the using thereof
been comonly called Endorsemts. of Such Bank Notes
Whether the aforesaid fact be felony wth. in the said Statute
is the Question on each Indictmt.
