The humble peticon & Appeale of the Churchwardens Overseers
of the Poore & Parishionrs. of the Parish of St. Ethelburgh within
Bishoppsgate
London
Sheweth
That the Clarke of yor. Petrs. Parish by mistake in a Returne to the prcept
directed to them from the Right Honorble the late lord Maior of this City
to give an account of their Poore and the charge of mainteyining them
hee made a returne of the sume of £133. for one yeare which was the totall
sume of all the pavments made in every respect for & concerning the same
Whereas in truth the true charge of their poore amounts to no more than
about £45. yearely.
And their said Parish being charged by virtue of the late Act of
Comon Councill to pay 66:10:2 to the Corporation of established by the said
Act for setting the poore on worke
Now yor: Petrs. in respect of the smallnesse of their Parish And
the greate charge of Poore therein wch. They have to mainteyne
Define that yor. Lopp. & Worpps. will be pleased to releive your Petrs and
to order the abatement of the said sume of £66:10s:2d: to such sume in
proportion To what doth truely arise by their assessement for mainteyning
the Poore of their said Parish They being only releivable
by this Courte
And They shall pray Etc.
