day of March 1692
The Said Informant Saith That on Sunday morning last
being ye 5th: day of March instant he coming along with
Mr. Nicholas Wade< no role >
a Constable
into ye Shepperd Taverne
in Cheapside
about two of ye clocke in ye morning he
this Informant hearing Musick went with the Said Constan
ble up Staires into the room where Mr. Shepperd lay, he
being then in bed where this Informant found a person
playing on a Harpe, and another person was drinking
with a Flaske in one hand and a glasse in the other,
So the Constable telling them he wondred they should key
Such bad houres and So ordered them to be carryed to
the Counter And afterward this Informant and ye Constable
coming down staires into ye passage leading into ye said Tavern
there were two men who gave ye Constable very abusive
language Saying he was a pimpe and that they cared not A
Sart for them Whereupon the Constable committed them to ye
Counter And the Constable being informed that some of the
Persons he had Committed belonged to a person of quality
and that there was a Lord above would Speak with him
this Informant did advise ye Constable not to go up for
that they might do him Some mischief with their swords
and thereupon the Constable refused to go up to the Lord
Then A Gentleman
came down to ye Constable and told
him yt: he was a poor of ye Realme and that they were
his Servants whom ye Constable had committed & comanded
ye Constable to Fetch them back again or else he would
lay ye Constable by ye heels on Munday. To which the
Constable answered it was not in his power to fetch
you. back being he had committed them
