Depositions taken on View of the Body
of John Wilkinson< no role > laying Dead at the
Parish of Saint Botolph Aldgate in the
County of Middlesex the 17th day of July
1789 before Edward Walter< no role > one of the
Coroners for the said County

Benjamin Broad< no role > of Red Cross Street East Smithfield
in the Parish and County aforesaid an Attendant at
the Office of Mr Smith a Majistrate for Middlesex
being Sworn saith That on Thursday last about the
pour of Seven he sawthe William Powell< no role > come
out of the Kings Arms a Publick House in East
Smithfield with a Knife in his hand and
making use of many horrid Expressions said
he would Cut the Thief takers Bowells out
upon which the deceased said Put up your knife
and go about Your Business or it will be worse
for you to which he said he was going to Cut the
String of his Trowsers to make Waters Deponent
then went by desire of Wilkinson to fetch an
Officer to take him into Custody That Deponent
returned with one Mc Caul< no role > an Officer and with
him and Wilkinson went into Nightingale
Court and there found Powell That he was then
standing with his Back against the Wall without
any knife drawn or any Weapon in his hand
