which was objected to by several Gentlemen Present, but
the Motion being Seconded, the Question was put thereon
and Mr. Church Warden Rutt declared It was Carried in
the Negative.

Ward officer

Mr. James then Moved to Divide, and Tellers
being appointed, the Numbers on the Division were For
the Question Seventeen; and Fourteen Against it. It was
therefore Ordered That Mr. Mauduitt be Excused from
Serving the Offices of Constable and Inquest Men for the
Year ensuing, on Paying the usual Fine of Fourteen Pounds.

Then Mr. William Edwards< no role > was put up to serve the
Office of Constable and Inquest Man in the room of Mr.
Mauduitt and Chose.

Common
Council men

Then Mr. Maynard, Mr. Pope. Mr. Lem and Mr.
Chauntrell were severally Nominated for Common Council
Men, but Mr. Chauntrell desiring to be Excused, Mr.
Maynard, Mr. Pope, and Mr. Lem were Ordered to be returned
to the Wardmote for Common Council Men for the Year
ensuing.

Fine for
Ward Offices

N.B. At the Wardmote held at Pewterer 's Hall in and
for Langbourn Ward on St. Thomas day< no role > next ensuing
the above Meeting, Mr. William Mauduitt< no role > was chose
Constable and Inquest Man not withstanding the
above Order for his being allowed to Fine: It being
the Opinion of Mr. Alderman Sawbridge and that
Wardmote that Fines were Illegal; And Mr. Church
Warden Rutt< no role > having thereupon returned the said
Fine of Fourteen Pounds to Mr. Mauduitt, an
Entry is directed to be made thereof accordingly.
