That, in the reform of human nature much may be done
not only by reward and consuragement, but also by economy
and gradations of diet, upon the Plan adopted in Dorchester
Gaol, and House of Correction, where those who do not evidence
a Willingness to work, have an inferior degree of food, and
recommodation, and thos whose work if profitable, receive
better diet and increased comfort in proportion to their
exertions and industry. That for the particulars of improved
economy with respect to diet in this Country, your Commitee
begs leave to refer the Court to the Reports of the Society for
bettering the condition of the Poor, from which it will appear
that a very great saving may be made in that respect.

the Hospl.
That, considerable effect may be produced by apparent
and real nextness in every object around, for which purpose
your Committee recommends in addition to Personal and
Domestic Cleanliness, the frequent and periodical White-
washing of all the Apartments of Bridewell, as the means
of induring and confirming habits of cleanliness, and
decency in the Persons employed there; and (your Committee
thinks itself justified in adding,) consequent habit of
Morality and Industry.
That your Commitee is of Opinion that the providing
for the several Persons who have been stated to be the
original objects of this Hospital, was the condition of the
Grant of Bridewell House, and it's Estates and Revenues,
and that (except so far as the change
of times and manners
may have rendered any of the objects of present in applicable)
the Corporation is bound to apply their Revenues for the
benefit and Reform of the three discriptions of Persons
abovementioned in proportion to their necessities and
Circumstances.
