The Basket Men on the Womans side
Shall Light the Fire in the Store Room at Seven in the Morning and Assist in carrying
the Woman thither
That he shall Assist the Gallery Maids in Bathing Bleeding Shaving and giving the
Patients their Med [..] and also in removing the Shaw and Cleaning the Cells and Galleries
As to the Office of Cook
And the Committee further find that the Duty and Office of Cook has been and is as
follows
To Dress all the Meat, Boyl all the Pottage Milk Gruel Furmety and Rice Milk
To Cut out the Meat on Sundays
To Clean the Coppers Kitchen and Scullerys
The Duty and Office of

And We are of Opinion that the following Regulations and alterations
should be made in the Office of Cock, that is to says
That she shall Dress all the Meal Boyl all the Pottages Milk, Gruel, Furmety and
Rice Milk
That she shall clean the Coppers Kitchen and Scullerys
That she shall not be allowed to Treat any of the Patients with Strong Beer in the Kitchen
As to the Office of Gallery Maids
And the Committee further find that the Duty and office of Gallery Maids have
been and are as follows
To Distribute the Provisions to the Women Patients
To help to wash and Iron the Linen of all the Patients
To clean the Cells Gallery Chequer and Stairs of the Womans End also the Committee
Rooms and the Stairs and other parts in the Middle of the House
The Duty and Office
of the Gallery Maids
And We are of Opinion that the following regulations and alterations should be
made in the Office of the Gallery Maids, that is to say,
It is the Opinion of this Committee that another Gallery Maid be Added and that
all be under the immediate Direction of the Matron and that Apartments be provided in
their respective Galleries
That they shall be in their Galleries by Six o'Clock in the Summer and Seven in the
Winter and Open the Doors of the Cells that the Patients may come out of the Roome
That they shall then Carry down to the Store Room such Patients as ought to be
put there and afterwards turn out the low Spirited and such as are Mopish and there
set about Cleaning the Cells and Galleries
That they shall be very Careful in removing the old Straw and Providing Inosh and
shall remove the Patients that are Dirty from one Cell to another and Wash their Dirty
Cells and shall take away such Waste Provisions as may be found every Morning
That they shall receive the Linen and other Necessaries brought in with the Patients
by their Friends and shall keep an Account in Writing that they may be Delivered up
when the Patient is Discharged or if Tern that the pieces may be returned to shew that
they have not been Purloined
That they shall Assist in Bringing in the Women Patients to the Committee on
Saturdays

The Committee are of Opinion that the General Rules and Orders
following are Necessary to be made for the Good Conduct and Management of the said

No Patient to be allowed

And no Visitor to Treat
the Patient or Servants to
Retad such things on pain
of Expulsion
Wardrobe to be at Stewards
and Gallery made to lay

be [..] charged
That no Patient whatever shall be allowed Tea Wine or Strong Beer by their Friends
unless by the Particular Direction of the Physician Surgeon or Apothecary first given in
Writing Nor shall any Money be taken by the Servants on that Account
And that no Person coming to Visit their Friends shall be allowed to Treat them
with Tea Wine Strong Beer or Spirituous Liquors nor shall any of the Servants Order Fetch
or Retail any such things on Pain of being Discharged
And That an Apartment be made for the Matron and that the Steward shall
remove the Wardrobe into his own House; And that each Gallery Maid shall lay
in her own Gallery
And that a Bone House shall be made in a proper place
And that Incurable Patients when they become Mopes or Consumption be
Discharged if they belongto Parishes as it is Presumed they may be as Commod [..]
