At a Grand Committee held at Bridewell Hospital on Friday
the 3d. Friday the 10th. and Friday the 17th. Days of May 1765
In Pursuance of an Order of Court bearing Date the 24th. day of
April last Whereby the Committee are at Liberty to meet at Bridewell
Hospital We have produced to Enquire what is the Office and Duty of the
Steward of Bethlem Hospital and do find that the following Rules and
Orders have been made and are now Subsisting relating to his Duty and
Office, that is to say

To enter the Names of all the Patients Admitted, the Parishes in
which are their respective Settlements, and the Names and places of Abode of
their Securities.

To enter in a Book all Moneys received by him

To see that all the Provisions Contracted for be rightly Delivered as to the
Quantity and Quality and Cause to be Augmented or Diminished as the
Exigence of the House requires

To take Care that all Stores not Contracted for be of the best sorts and at
reasonable rates to the best of his Judgment

To Provide and Deliver out all necessary Bedding and Cloathing for the
Patients

To enter all the Patients Discharges
To receive all the Annuitys
To Adjust and receive all Payments due for Incurables

To receive from Mr. treasurer all Sums of Money out of the Poors Box
and otherwise as are requisisk to pay the Bills passed by the Comittee

To Supervise all the Servants and if any of them shall be remiss in
their Duty to Acquaint the Weekly Committee To take care that the Orders
for the good Government of the Hospital be strictly Observed, And if he finds
any Disorder or Mismanagement he is to Acquaint the Committee

To see Performed all Casual Orders of the Court Committee or treasurer
relating to the matters aforesaid

And We have further Proceeded to Enquire what regulations and
Alterations may be made therein and are of Opinion that instead of the
former Rules and Orders the following Rules and regulations are necessary to
be made and Established for the good Government and Advantage of the
said Hospital that is to say

That he shall enter the Names of all the Patients Admitted the
Parishes in which are their respective Settlements and the Names and places of
abode of their Securities

That he shall enter in a Book all Moneys received by him

That he shall take Care that all Stores not Contracted for be of the best
Sorts and at reasonable rates to the best of his Judgment

That he shall provide and deliver out all Necessary Bedding and
Cloathing for the Patients

That he shall enter all the Patients Discharges
That he shall receive all the Annuitys
That he shall Adjust and receive all payments due for Incurables
That he shall receive from Mr treasurer all Sums of Money out of the Poors
Box and otherwise as are requisite to pay the Bills passed by the Committee
