Upon reading a Report from the Comittee of Bridewell Hospital bearing date the 5th: of
July instant under the hands of Robert Bishop< no role > Esqr . Trear , John Bacon< no role > Esqr . Mr John Cooks< no role >
Mr. James Bartlett< no role > and Mr. Mark Holman< no role > in the words and figures following Vizt.
John Palmer< no role > of the parish of St. Andrew Holborn in the County of Middlx Carpenter
proposed to take a Lease of three Houses No. 15 on the North side of Crown Alley and the
Ground whereon the same are built and the Yards thereto belonging situate within the Precinct
of the Hospital of Bridewell being part of the possessions of the said Hospital for hearty one
years to commence from Mictras next at the Yearly Rent of £12. payable Quarterly clear of all
Parliamentary or other Taxes and to pay a Fine of £35. and to lay out £150. in repairing the
premisses and to accept at his Charge a Lease of the said premisses with such Covenants as are
usually contained in Leases from the Governors to their Tenants And also a Covenant that he with
Surrender up such Lease and quit the premisses to the Governors at any time upon six Months
Notice after the Expiration of the Term which the Carpenter's Company now hath in the
adjoyning premisses under his Grace the Duke of Dorsett in case the Governors shall think
proper to pull down or alter any of the said Houses to widen the passage through Crown Alley
aforesaid And a Covenant to pay to the Chappell Wardens of the said Hospital & Precinct for the
time being any Sum or Sums of money Quarterly in proportion with other Occupyers of Ground
and Houses in the Precinct towards the Charge of the Scavenger Watch and Poor of the
said Hospital and Precinct as shall be rated or assessed from time to time at the usual
Meetings of the Chappell Wardens and Inhabitants of the said Hospital and Precinct and
to execute a Counterpart of the said LeaseThe Committee are of Opinion to accept the
said proposals Whereupon the said John Palmer< no role > gave a Guinea to the Poor's box
All which is nevertheless submitted to the Judgment of the CourtAnd it is
Ordered this Opinion be reported to the next CourtThis Court having duly Weighed
and Considered of the said Report doth Confirm the same And Order that a Lease be
made to the said John Palmer< no role > Accordingly./.
