Fran Smith< no role > wch Report is in these words Vizt. 22: Augt: 1703
This Comittee being mett in Psuance of an Order of the
27th of Octor. last past whereof it was Referred to them to
Inspect the prmisses in Old Bethlem and Treat wth Mr.
Phillips about a New Lease of the Same And haveing
Viewed the Prmisses lett to Wm. Phillips deced the Husband
of the said Martha Phillips< no role > by two Indentures One Dated 30th
Day of March 1677 for thirty and One Years at £21:13s:04d
Rent and the other Dat 4th day of May 1683 for three and
thirty Years at £25:6s:8d Rent Do find the Same out of
Repair and haveing heard the proposalls of the said
Martha Phillips< no role > the Widow of the sd. Wm. Phillips< no role > deced
And haveing Advised wth our Workmen are of Opinion
that if one Story over the Gateway leading into Old
Bethlem were pulled downe it would be much for the
Benefitt of the said Hosptl. of Bethlem as to the Improves
of their other Rents these wth the said Martha Phillips< no role > as
Soon as the Same comes into her hands is Willing to
Comply wth And therefore do think it reasonable that the
said Martha Phillips< no role > upon Surrendring her said Two Lease
to be Cancelled And paying downe Fifty pounds fine and
advanceing her Rent from Forty Seaven pounds P ann
to Seavenly five pounds P Ann to Commence from Micha
next Ensueing And a covenant at her owne Charge to
putt Downe the said Story over the Gateway wth in three
Years from Michas next when her Undertenants Lease
thereof Expires May have a New Lease of the Prmisses
by ading 21 Years to make her Terme Twenty four Years from Michas
next at the said Rent of Seaventy five pounds P
Ann wth Usuall Covenants and that a New Covenant be
Added That in Case the Hosptl. shall be Inclined to rebuild
