£40 for Each amongst them And accordingly to their Assertion, in the former dutch
Warrs wherein the Numbers of Seamen sent to their House for Cures were not to be
Compared with there in the late Warr with France: Yet then for an Engagement or
two they were Gratified with £300: But supposing £200 P Annu should be allowed them
dureing 10 years Warr it would amount to £2000:

2:If the Calculacon should be madeat so much P diem for
their Attendance The Physitian could not demands less then 10 P diem but if it be only 5s: P diem it would
£ s d
amount to for the Physitian P Annu90:05:00
And the 3: Chyrurgion supposing at 2s:6d P diem to135:07:06
Totll: 225:12:06

Which for 10 yeares would be £2256:05s besides the Charge of Medicines which wee
must have provided.

NB

3.At the Comencement of the late Warr Especially after the Ld: Torringtons
Engagement upon our frequent Visitacon of the Hospitall Wee found great Numbers
of sick and Wounded seamen Attendance and Labour very constant and great by
reason of Amputacon and lingring Distempers; Wee promissed them for their
Encouragement a Suitable Compensation Which they yearly sollicited but never
obtained any

4:Considering the Advantage which the Government hath by saving 12d P diem
for each Seamans Quarters at other ports besides the Benefitt of better Accomodacon
and Cures, And for Encourageing the Hospitalls for future To take Care of Sick
and Wounded Seamen Which they promise in greater Numbers their House being now
enlarged if the Governours do admitt them

5:Considering that the Established Sallary yearly at 4: of the Chiefest Ports for
1: Physitian One Surgeon and 1: Mate is £400: P Annu and Itinerant Chyrurgions
5s: and 2s:6d P diem and at all other ports 6s:8d P head is allowed Each Chyrurgion for
Cures.

We have Computed that according to this their request of 6s:8d P head for 4146:
men sent into St Thomas Hospitall and thence discharged the Cures would amount
to £1382: for 10 years service which is about £800: less than the Computacon of Sallaries
or Gratuites aforemenconed.

Also Considering they have received nothing dureing the late Warr by reason
of the Scarcity of Moneys.

It is our Opinion that the said Physitians and Chyrurgions Ought in reason
to be Allowed for the Sick and Wounded Seamen under their Care dureing the late 10
yeares Warr 5s: P head which would for 4146: men amt. to£1036:10s
Resolved that the said Gentlemn: be acquainted with the said Opinion.

Thursday 16o April 1702: Present at Supra

The Physitian Surgeons of the Hospitalls attended this Morning abt the

they could not Accept of 5s: P head which this Boards had offered them formerly
Upon which they Withdraw-And the Board after some houres debate and
nicely Examining their Allegacons, and their own Instruccons about the
Hospitll: and Considering what great service the Government would have in future
from the said HospitallIt was resolved to allow their Demands of 6s:8d P head
and Ordered that Warrants be made out for the 1st: 3d: of £1382: Which the said man
Allowance amounted to for St. Thomas and the Like for St: Bartho: Hopspitall:
