an Insurance on your farm buildings, I informed You that
they even secured till Michmas 1801; it now lays upon me to
tell you that the Insurance has been renewed for 7 years, the
Expence of which is £11.2.Which you would please to include in
your near Remittance for rent, & the soon in you can conve-
niently made this Remittance the more acceptable it will be
as the Hospital has been at an uncommon heavy Expence this
Year.

To Mr. John Batten< no role > Upholden Rochester
St. Thomas's Hospital Oct. 21st. 1801 .
Sir.
When a Licence was granted by the Governors of this Hospital
for Mrs Gordon to assign her lease hold Premises at Bully Hill to you
I desired her Attorney to inform you that she had an Insurance
on them (in her own Name & mixed well other Property) which expence
at Xmas next & which it will be Prepar to renew. By a Covenant
in the Lease you will find that the Policy of Insurance should
be taken out in the Name of the Treasurer of the Hospital &
reported at the Compting House here; it is therefore the Usage
of the Hospital to make the Insurance for 7 Years at once, & to
receive the Account from the Tenant. I wish therefore to inform
you of this Circumstance to prevent a double insurance being
made & I have to add that by an old Policy of this Gordons, the
discription of the Premises "An a House on Bully Hill
Rochester in private Tenence, not exceeding £500, Stable Laundry
& Offices adjoening near Brick Timber & tiled not exceeding £200.
Do you conceive £700 a sufficient Insurance in Case of Accident
as you need be aware that the Lessee must be answerable of
the Insurance is insufficient. I will thank you for an Answer
on this Subject that I may be prepared to make the Insurance
at Christmas & you will let me know at the same Time to
when I shall apply for the Money as well as for the Rent.
as it is the usage of this Hospital to renew it regularly &
half yearly as Lady day Mechimas in every Year.Your
have doubtless also been informed that there is Schedule
of features upon the Premises which are the Hospital Property
in Consequence of an Agreement will Mrs. Gordon when the
Lease was granted & in Consideration of which it was left
to her at an career rent: And these features [..] be full
-couring on the Expiration of the Lease.
I am Ser
Your most obed Serv.

N.B. In the Dwelling House, brick
& Timber tiled: the Words in the Policy
do not seem clear.
