"fault with the Persons at the Gaol on that Account as
"she understood it was a General Regulation and that
"they had received Orders not to suffer any to be carried
"into the Prison but that the Persons in Confinement
"were somewhat better off now than they had before been
"That Dr.. Glasse had written a Book called "the Secrets of
"the Bastile." and that she believed her Son intended
"to write an Answer to it on my going away she said
"she should go down Stairs with me and show me the
"way out by the Private Door which she did adding that
"I might come in by the same way at any future time
"in Case I should wish to purchase any more without
"troubling the People of the House who had either
"given her Notice or Desired her to quit the premises
"on Account of this Publication and he delivered the
"12. Copies which he had purchased One Copy whereof
"is Annexed to this Report, -

"And Your said Committee further Report
"That Mr.. Thomas Aris< no role > the Governor was Examined
"as to several matters set forth in the Printed affidavit
"and Narrative and gave the following Account Vizt.

"Joseph Burks< no role > Came into the House of Correction
"from Newgate on the 21st.. November 1796. He was sent
"by a Rule of the Court of Kings Bench to be Imprisoned
"Two Years when he came in he appeared to be much
"emaciated and in a bad state of Health he soon grew
"better, as to Vermin in the Beding he never made
"any Complaint to me of it and I verily believe what
"Vermin he had he brought in with him for he was
"so extremely nasty and filthy in his Person and Habits
"That I had the greatest difficulty to keep him clean and
"was frequently obliged almost to force him to Wash and
"Clean himself he had his own Bed brought into the
"Prison as soon as he asked for it which was in a few
