The further Examination.
of Thomas Aris< no role > Govt .
of the House of Correction}

I was present part of the time when Mr.. Burdon
and Mr.. Mathew; and Colonel Despard were together,
but being fetched out of the Room once or twice I did not
hear the whole of the Conversation, but I perfectly well
remember Colonel Despard saying respecting the
Advertizement, 'That had he been Consulted about Mrs.
"Despards Letter previous to its being inserted in the
Public Papers, he would have prevented its insertion",
or Words to that Effect, that the Colonel repeatedly said
he had no Complaint to make against the Governor
or the Magistrates who visited the Prison, nor, should
he make any, that after the first two or three Days
Mrs.. Despard alway's had access to the Colonel
and she brought him all sorts of Provisions she
thought proper, and they frequently walked together
in the Garden , till the Weather got Cold, when they used
to come into the Lodge, where they had a Chair each at
the Fire, and where they frequently continued together
for two or three hours at a time, and Conversed
without any interruption, - On Saturday Evening
about Six o' Clock the Twenty ninth of December I received
the Duke of Portlands Order not to admit Sir Francis
Burdett
< no role > on the Wednesday following about one o' Clock
he came with an Order from Mr.. Conant with
Lord Hervey, I refused them admission in Consequence
of the Dukes Order received on the 29th.. of December
Sir Francis was at the Prison the Sunday Morning
with Another Gentleman before I received the Dukes
Order, with an Order, but my Son did not take it
from him, which I did not know until he was gone
when he came on Wednesday Morning with Lord
Hervey, Lord Hervey gave the Order and I took him
to my House to show him the Order I had to refuse
