June 1778

A Motion was made and Seconded that One fit
person only be nominated for High Constable of Holborn Division to
be returned on the County day of the said next General Session
according to ancient Custom and the Question being thereupon put it
passed in the affirmative

Petitions from the several persons undermentioned
requesting to be nominated for the said Office were received and read
Vizt.

Robert Fitz< no role > of Little Earl Street Seven Dials
Tallow Chandler

Arthur Gliddon Little Ormond Street Queen
Square

John Bagley< no role > Theobalds Road Poulterer

The Petitioners were called in & Examined as to their respective
Situations and Abilities and the Magistrates proceeded to Ballot
for the said Nomination whereupon the numbers appeared as
follows (that is to say) for the sd. Robert Fitz< no role > Ton for the said Arthur
Gliddon One

Resolved that the said Robert Fitz< no role > having a
Majority upon the Ballot is nominated as a fit and proper person
for High Constable of this Division & that he be returned to the
next Session on the County day for the approbation of the Justices
then present

Resolved that a Copy of these Minutes Etc
Resolutions signed by the Clerk be transmitted to the said next
Session

The following motion was made Vizt That a
Nomination by certain Magistrates of the Holborn Division
under an Order of reference from the last Quarter Sessions permitting
a nomination of a High Constable for that Division and directing
that a Return of the different Candidates for the said Office should be
made at the County day of the present General Sessions for the approbation
& Election of the Justices then present has been irregularly conducted and
therefore the same and the return of the said Nomination is to all intents
