been obliged to Assess the Inhabitants of the parish to the full [..] tent
given them by their Act Vizt. at 2s..6d in the pound for paving Cleansing
Lighting and Watching 6d. in the pound for widening of Charterhouse
Lane and 6d. in the pound for making the New Sewers in the
Streets where the same were made In all 3s..6d in the pound besides
a very heavy poors Rate which some times amounts to 4s..6d in the
pound and which for Seven Years last past has never been less than
3 Shillings in the pound and all at Rack Rents

That many of the houses within the said parish
are let at £10. a Year and under and the Occupiers thereof being
persons in low Condition to whom the Taxes already assessed are a
great burthen The same are with much difficulty Collected
and altho' the said several Works are of great Utility and benefit
to the publick Yet the said parish has never had any assistance
whatsoever from the publick

That Your Memorialists in the Year 1773
at the Expence of about £100 Erected a Watch and Engine have
with Rooms over the same on the West side of the present Sessions
house which must necessarily be taken down therewith and there
is no convenient Spot in the parish whereon to Erect another in
the stead thereof

That the removal of the Sessions house into
another parish will not only be of great prejudice to many of the
Inhabitants of the Parish of Saint Sepulchre which must
naturally affect the Landlords by lowering the Rents but the
parish will also sustain a very great Loss and be put to a
considerable Expence on Account thereof the office of Clerk of
the peace being assessed to the Land Tax in the said parish
at £300 a Year at 4s. in the pound pays £60. a Year which
must be made up by the Inhabitants or Owners of Houses
who are now assessed to the said Tax at full 4.5ths. of their
Rack Rents and the present Sessions house pays to the
