Taken this 20th day of Jany 1789 Before me John
Staples
< no role > Esqr. one of His Majestys Justices of the
peace in and for the said County Who being on
oath saith This Morning about the hour of Eleven
he saw the person present who saith his name is
George Shirley< no role > take the Cloth coat produced which
was hanging on the inside of his said Master door
the property of his said Master and of the Value of Twenty
Shillings that himself and fellow Servant Thomas
Sowerby
< no role > pursued and saw said Thomas take him the said
George Shirley< no role > Within a few Yard with the said
Coat and brought both back to the Shop

Wm Hastings< no role >

George Shirley< no role > says about Ten Minutes before he was
taken with said Coat he went in and bought a pair of Silver
Clasps of the said William Hastings< no role > and went out of said
Shop That Thinking there was a Coat that would suit
at said Shop the went into said Shop where were Two
Woman serving by Wm. Hastings< no role > and the Man who took
him-That he took the Coat produced down to took at
saying he should take the coat and look at it Says he believes
neither of the mea heard him One of the Woman did he hearing
her say the coat was taken down and before he could look at the
Coat outside the Door he was taken with the said Coat Says he
did not see the Court was so good or he would high have attempted to have
bought it
