in the said
County taken before one this 16th. day of
Janry 1789
Who being upon Oath say, and forit the said Francis
Cooper< no role >
for himself saith that last Night about ten o'Clock a
person now present who calls himself Richard Haines< no role >
came
into his House with another personThat said Haines
called for a Pot of PorterThat he and said other person
drank the same in about a quarter of an hour and as
he was going along his Passage leading from his House
into the Street, the said Richard Haines< no role >
lifted him up and
took his Watch out of his Fob, and ran away with the
sameThat he pursued said Haines about fifty Yards
when he sized hold of him by the Coat and charged him
with stealing his WatchThat said Haines denied it
and a struggle ensued between them and said Haines got
away from him and went towards Kew Bridge
, soon
after which he was apprehensive thro' this Informants
cries of "Stop Thief" That Informant with others then
got a Candle and Lanthora and went to the Spot where said
Haines had been struggling with him and got from him where
he perceived his Watch, lying on the Ground on which he sent
for the said Thomas Field< no role >
And the said Thomas as Field for
himself saith that hewent with the said Cooper and on
Searching for the said Watch hefound the same lying on the
Ground as aforesaid
