The information of Samuel Eastfield< no role > of the Fore Street St. Ann Middx .
Shopkeeper Who being on Oath saith on Monday the 10th of Sepr 1787 The
Prisoner present who says his Name is John Thomas< no role > about Eight of the Clock
in the Evening came into his Shop with another man dressed in a Sailors Cloaths
That both asked to look at Sundry Clothes which they cheapened and agreed to
& have One Linnen Shirt Value Four Shillings and six pence and One pair
of Stockings for Two Shillings and Four pence which they desired to be put by and
That they would come and pay for them in the Morning says they both went
away and about half an hour after returned and desired to have the said Stockings
and ShirtSays he is certain at the Time he let them in the last Time Eleven Soorey
Handkerchiefs were in his Shop WindowThat he put said Shirt and Stockings
down on the Counter when said John Thomas< no role > said he would not give more than Eighteen
pence for the Stockings And in the mean Time his wife Mary came into the Shop
The said John Thomas< no role > and Companion walked out and on Seeing a piece of Blue
Handkerchiefs which had been in the said Window on the Floor he suspected The said
Two men had robbed him he [..] looked in said Window instantly
and missed the said Eleven Soone Handkerchiefsand immediately pursued them
and when they saw him they both run away Says he seized them both but
could only Secure the said John Thomas< no role > who asked this informant why he did not
follow the whiteman that it was he that had got his handkerchiefsSays the said John
Thomas
< no role > was searched in the watchouse and had not a farthing of money about him And
That he has not the least Doubt but the said John Thomas< no role > and his said Companion
took his Eleven Soon Handkerchiefs out of his said Shop Window

John Thomas< no role > saysYesterdayon Monday morning [..] last he met with a Tailor in
the Borough who he doth not know went and drink at Several Places and that said Tailor
said he would carry him where he could buy a second hand Waistcoat and pair of Stockings at the
best handThat he gave said Sailor six Shillings and six name to keep for him And that about the hour
of Eight the same night he and said Tailor went into the Shop of Mr. Eastfield and tryed Three Sackets
and a pair of Stockings and his Companion [..] a Shirt That neither of them bargained for any thing
but they were to come the next day That after being gone sometime he thought it best to go for the
Stockingssays notwithstanding lastfield had told him he would not back any thing of what he
asked which was Two Shillings, and four pence for the said Stockings he thought them worth
only Eighteen pence made him bed no more for themand that the Reason he run away was
because he was afraid Says neither he or his Companion took any Handkerchiefs out of and Shop
