The Information of Benjamin Rutter< no role > of
Lewkners Lane in the Parish of Saint Giles
in the Fields in the said County Smith Taken the
24th day of June 1784

Who upon his Oath Saith That on Saturday last
about a Quarter of an hour before One o'Clock in the
afternoon he was coming along Broad Street Saint
Giles in the fields aforesaid and saw a Man (now in Custody)
who says his Name is John Shelley< no role > This name instance is in set 1537. This set is in the group(s): GarrowsClients . who had in his
hand a large Stick and Two other Men the One Armed
with a Blunder Cuss the other with a Cutlass and
Three or Four other Men Armed with large Sticks
go up to a Horse and Cart which immediately Stopped
upon which one Machen Simpson on Excuse Officer
who was then in the Cart was getting out and as
soon as he was out of the Cart he was Knocked
down by the said John Shelley< no role > This name instance is in set 1537. This set is in the group(s): GarrowsClients . with a large Stick
and another Man Struck the said Machen Simpson
when he was down on the side of the head with a
Cutlass and immediately a general Affray Excused and
the House and Cart was Taken away and drove off
up Bow Street Men were holding up their Sticks in a
Meaning manner and threatening every person who
attempt to Retake the said House and Cart
That at the corner of Hart Street Bloomsbury
he saw the above named Machen Simpson learning
against the Rails of a House Bleeding very much
from the Blows and Wound he had before received
and he also saw the above Named John Shelley< no role > This name instance is in set 1537. This set is in the group(s): GarrowsClients .
