Thursday 20th. December 1744

in Holborn & late in the Occupation of Mr. John Luke< no role > deceased for 7 Years to
comence from Laday next and the said Edward Bevins< no role > & Henry Roberts< no role > being called
in they Severally proposed as follows Vizt.

Edward Bevins< no role > to pay clear of Taxes the Governrs.

Henry Roberts< no role > proposed to take the House in the
Condition it is in & to pay clear of Taxes

Whereupon this Comee having considered the said Several proposals are of Opinion
to Accept the said proposalls of the said Henry Roberts< no role > upon which he gave as Gabd
to the Poors boxAll which is nevertheless Submitted to the Judgement of
the CourtAnd it is Ordered that this Opinion be reported to the Court
this Court having duly weighed & considered the said Report doth confirm
the same & Order a Lease to be made to the said Henry Roberts accordingly

Tayler acquainted the Court
what had been done therein}


Mr: Taylor acquainted this Court That he was at a Meeting of the Comissions
of the Land Tax for the Tower division in the County of Middlesex on the Twenty
Seventh of November last when an appeal was made in writing Signed by Robert
Morgan
< no role > as followsOn behalf of the Governours of Bridewell Hospital
London I appeal against the Assessment of the Land tax made upon the Lends and
Tenements in Wapping which belonged to the said Hospital in the year 1693 and are
now held under Two Several Leases from the said Governours to Mr. William Bate< no role >
and in the Occupation of Mr. Mawson or his under hands the one at £20 and
the other at £50 P Ann rent which ought not to have been assigned to the said
Tax and therefore on behalf of the said Governours I pray that the Assessment to
farr as the Amount of the said Rents may be taken off and reduced
Whereupon Mr: Taylor laid before the Board The Lease (No: 3) dated 20 June
1751 made by the Governours to Mr. William Bates< no role > of the premisses in Wapping
therein mentioned being part of the possessions of the said Hospital for
49¼ years at £20 P Annum rentand the Counterpart of a Lease of
the some premisses dated 26 April 1667 from the said Governours to Dr: Bates
who was father of the said Mr. William Bates< no role > ) fro 51 Years at the same rent
of £20 P Annumand the Clause of the Land Tax Act being read
whereby it is Enacted That nothing in the said Act contained should eaten'd
to charge any of the Houses or Lands which on or before the 25th: March
1693 did belong to Bridewell Hospital He moved that the Assessmt.
of the Premissescomprized in the said Lease to Mr. Bates so farr as the
amount of the Rent of Twenty Pounds being the rent which belonged to
the said Hospital on or before the 25th. March 1693 might be taken off and
reduced According to the said Act and then the withdrew fill the Question was
putAnd afterwards returning to the Board (the Gentleman who was
in the Chair having left it and an other being in his place) He was Acquainted
the Commissioner did not think fit to take off any part of the said Assessment
That he then laid before the Commissioners the other Lease No: 78) dated
12 September 1717 from the said Governours to the said Mr. Bates of the Premes
