day of March 1785 at Tothill Fields
Bridewell in the Parish of St. Margaret
within in the Liberty of Westmr. in the
County of Middlesex , upon an
Inquisition touching the death of
[..] Joly de st. Valier< no role > a Prisoner lying
dead in the said Prison

William Barton< no role > of Sturton Ground
Apothecary on his Oath saith That on
Thursday the Tenth Instant Dept. visited
Joly dest. Valier a Prisoner in Tothill
Fields Bridewell when Deced appeared
to be in a weak languid State, Says that
he sent Deced some Medicines which
Deced refused to take, Says that the
Deced grew worse and died this
Morning, and Dept. believes that he died
in a natural way.

Wm. Barton< no role >

John Smearly< no role > a Prisoner in Tothill
Fields Bridewell on his Oath saith that
he has been Prisoner there almost
three Years That the Deced has been
Prisoner there about Eleven Months, That he
has been been in a low and languid
Way about six weeks but would take
no Medicines, That he Eat his Allowance
every day, but would have nothing else
from the Governor, when he was desired
Says that the Deced slept in Bed
always, and was not ill used by any
Person in the Prison, and Dept. used
