Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Bray singlewoman living as a servant with Mr Tyson at Cutler in Church Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this fourth Day of February 1754. This Examinant upon her oath saith that she is 27 years of age and never was married bound an apprentice kept house rented 10 pounds the year or paid any parish taxes, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Courtney a Fishmonger in Church Lane aforesaid for the space of three years at the yearly wages of 3 pounds and 10 shillings, quitted the same about six years ago and hath not been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish St Martin in the Fields, and that Abraham Hitchings a Plaisterer in Church Lane had carnal knowledge of body about the middle of the month of September last upon a part of scaffold in the two pair of stairs fore room at the house of Mr Tyson in Church Lane aforesaid at which time he the said Abraham Hitchings did beget on her body the said child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said Abraham Hitchings is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox.
