Examination Text | The Examination of Elizabeth Edley singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this third Day of January 1754. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 32 years of age and upwards and never was married (but to Edward Buell whom she afterwards heard had another wife then living), And this Examinant upon her oath further saith that she was on the seventh Day of December 1750 delivered at the house of Mr Cousins a Hair Cutter in St Martin's Court in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields of a female bastard child (since christened Elizabeth) yet living and passed from the Parish of St. James in the liberty Westminster and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Edward Buell who is a Coachman by profession and now is a Book Keeper at an Inn in the market place in the city of Bath is the true and only father of the said female bastard child and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before me Benjamin Cox. |
