Examination Text | Jane Smith aged 35 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Brides London upon her oath saith that she is the widow of Thomas Smith (who died the 29th day of January last) to whom she was married at the ffleet the 29th June 1741, that he was a Pewterer by trade and was bound an apprentice by an indenture for seven years to Mr George Stafford a Pewterer the corner of Hemmings Row in St Martin's Lane in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and there served all his time out which expired about 16 years ago, that he never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant afterwards, nor hath she this Examinant since the death of her said husband, that she hath six children living by her said husband to wit Mary aged 13 years, Jane aged 10 years, Thomas aged seven years, Elizabeth aged six years, John aged two years, and Richard aged three months all now with this Examinant.
