| Examination Text | The Examination of Susannah Lovechild singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 20th Day of December in the year of our Lord 1756. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 21 years of age, that she never was married, that she was on the 26th Day of November last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened William) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that [blank] Chambers a Wheelwright (who works and is to be found) at Mr Wilson's a Wheelwright at the Kings Arms near Holborn Bridge had carnal knowledge of her body on or about the month of February last in upon a bed in a room up one pair of stairs forwards at a house let out in tenements in Chandler's Rents near St Anne's Church Black Fryers London and several times afterwards at the same and at different places at which or one of which times he the said [blank] Chambers did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said [blank] Chambers is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox. |
