Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Milson singlewoman in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this [blank] Day of February in the year of our Lord 1758. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 29 years of age and never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Lee at the Red Lyon in St Martin's Court in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid for the space of 18 months at the yearly wages of 4 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about two months ago, that she never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since, And further this Examinant saith that she was on the sixth Day of February instant delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened [blank]) yet living and become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that William Lee a Labourer (who has absconded himself) had carnal knowledge of her body in or about the month of May last in upon a bed in a lodging room which is one pair of stairs backwards at the house of the said Mr Lee in St Martin's Court and never afterwards (but that they had formerly lived together as man wife) at which time he the said William Lee did beget on her body the said Male bastard child, and that he the said William Lee is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Taken the workhouse the ninth day of February 1758.
