Examination TextMary Bird aged 17 years and upwards in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Rolfe (and others) at the Nags Head in Orange Court in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for several years at the yearly wages of 40s diet and lodging, that she hath not been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since she quitted the said Mrs Rolfe's service nor done any act to gain a subsequent settlement, And this Examinant further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish, and that John Wright (who is gone to sea) did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said John Wright is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Taken in the workhouse the fourth Day of July 1763.
