Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Long a spinster now servant to Mr Stratford a Milliner next the Red Lyon in Cock Spur Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 11th Day of December in the year of our Lord 1760. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 25 years of age, that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Sweet at the Coffee House in Buckingham Court in the Parish aforesaid for the space of four years at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about five months ago, that she never kept house rented 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Jones a Letter Carrier in the General Post Office and lodges at Mr Williams's a Chandler's in King Street Seven Dials had carnal knowledge of her body about the month of May last in and upon the bed in the back Garret at the house of Mr Sweet aforesaid and several times afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he the said John Jones did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant off, and that he the said John Jones is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Thomas Balack.
