Examination TextThe Examination of Mary White spinster in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlesex taken upon oath is 26th Day of November 1760. This Examinant upon her oath saith that she is 19 years of age, that she never was married bound an apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, that she was born in a house known by the sign of the Coach and Horses the lower end of St Martin's Lane in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, that her father Henry White was a Chairman, that she does not know where he was born nor that he ever kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes or was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that [blank] Jordan who lodges at Mr Hales's in Duke Street near St. James's Square did beget with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said [blank] Jordan is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before [blank]. [In a different hand:] Vide Memdum upon Vagt. Pass dated Octr. 5/92 NRt.
