| Examination Text | Dorothy Downing aged 61 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Margaret within the liberty of Westminster upon her oath saith that she is the widow of John Downing (who died about four months ago) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Margaret, Westminster about 11 years ago, that she cannot tell where her said husband was born nor never heard, that he never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together to this Examinant's knowledge, that before her intermarriage to her said husband John Downing she was the widow of William Winter (who died about 14 years ago) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of Hungerford in the County of Berks. about 23 years ago, that her said husband William Winter hath informed this Examinant that while he was single and unmarried he was a yearly hired servant in the capacity of a footman to Edward Southwell Esq in Spring Gardens in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of two years at the yearly wages of 6 pounds diet and lodging, that the said William Winter never kept house rented tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together after he quitted the said Edward Southwell's service to this Examinant's knowledge, that she this Examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of her said husband William Winter.
