Examination TextAnn Benthorn aged about 4[4] years lodging at Mr Sheen's in the Hop Garden in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she is the widow of [Alex] Benthorn (who died about 10 years ago) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St. James in Piccadilly the 5th day of September in the year 1756, that her said husband was a Baker by trade and lived in and rented an house the corner of the Hop Garden in Bedfordbury in the Parish aforesaid for the space of two years at the yearly rent of 21 pounds besides taxes, quitted the same about 12 years ago, that her husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes afterwards, that she this Examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of her said husband. Sworn the sixth Day of August 1772 before Charles Marsh.
