Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Marrow lodging at Mr Robinson's a Smith next but one to the sign of the Sun in Castle Street near Dirty Lane (with a woman up two pair of stairs in the said house) in the Parish of St. Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster taken upon oath this 18th Day of January in the year 1772. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 21 years of age, that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Eastham a Victualler at the sign of the Cross Keys near Chapel Alley in Long Acre in the Parish aforesaid for the space of 14 months at the yearly wages of 4 pounds diet and lodging, that she this Examinant never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months since she quitted the said Mr Eastham's service, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that James Dunn a Waiter at the sign of the Naggs Head in James Street Covent Garden had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of May or June last in and upon a bed in a fore room up two pair of stairs forward at the Naggs Head aforesaid and several times afterwards in the same place at which or one of which times he the said James Dunn did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said James Dunn is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Thomas Kynaston.
