Examination TextElizabeth Brown aged 60 years and upwards in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Bridget alias St Brides London upon her oath saith that she is the widow of Charles Brown (who died about 18 years ago) to whom she was married at the Fleet about 42 years ago, that her said husband while single and unmarried was a yearly hired servant in the capacity of a Coachman to the Duke of Somerset in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of two years and upwards but what wages he had she cannot tell diet and lodging, quitted the same about [blank] years ago, that her said husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since to this Examinant's knowledge, that she this Examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since the death of her said husband. Taken in the workhouse the 29th July 1771.
