Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Gibson in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the liberty of Westminster taken this eighth day of February in the year 1773. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 27 years of age, that she is the widow of Adam Gibson (who died in May 1771), And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she was on the eighth day of January last delivered in the workhouse of and in the Parish aforesaid of a female bastard child (since christened Hannah) yet living and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin the Fields, and that John Lloyd a Shoemaker at his mothers' who keeps a Shoemaker's shop in Bridge Street Westminster had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of April last in and upon a bed in the fore Garrett in the house of Mrs Lloyd in Bridge Street aforesaid, and several times afterwards in the same place at which or one which times he the said John Lloyd did beget on her body the said female bastard Child, and that he the said John Lloyd is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year aforesaid before Thomas Kynaston, John Goodchild.
