Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Cape lodging at Mr Handey's a Green Grocer in Duke Street Lincolns Inn Fields taken this 26th Day of October in the year 1778. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 42 years of age and upwards, that she is the widow of Jonathan Cape (who died near five years ago) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Giles in the Fields the 15th of January 1769, that her said husband was a Staymaker by trade and lived in and rented an house in Craven Court in Russell Street in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of three years at the yearly rent of 25 pounds besides taxes, quitted the same about 10 years ago, that her said husband never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes afterwards, that she this Examinant hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since the death of her said husband, that she hath one child living by her said husband to wit Elizabeth aged eight years and upwards now with this Examinant.
