| Examination Text | The Examination of Ann Tuten in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 13th Day of November in the year 1778. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 27 years of age, that she never was married, that she was on the fifth day of October last delivered in the workhouse aforesaid of a Male bastard child (since christened Edward) yet living and is become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that Edward Jones a Chairman (who lately played the corner of Cecil Street but where he is now she cannot tell) did beget on her body the said Male bastard Child, and that he the said Edward Jones is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
