Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Taylor lodging at Mrs Bishop's in Cecil Court in the Parish of St Martin the Fields taken this seventh Day of March 1776. This Examinant on her oath saith that she years 26 years of age, that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Smith a Victualler at the sign of the Kings Arms in St Martin's Court in the Parish aforesaid for the space of one whole year and upwards all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about 10 months ago, that she hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since. And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the Parish aforesaid, and that Thomas Hogg, Gentleman, to be heard of at the Blue Posts in Maiden Lane had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of August last in and upon a bed in a back room up three pair of stairs at the house known by the sign of the Bedford Head in Henrietta Street Covent Garden and several times after in the same place at which or one of which times he the said Thomas Hogg did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said Thomas Hogg is the true and only father thereof, and no man else. Sworn the seventh Day of March 1776 before Thomas Bullard.
